Since the age of five, Jesse Smith has had one focus: going fast. Starting his racing days behind the wheel of a quarter midget, Smith has always been focused on being a successful racecar driver.
The road to success in stock car racing can be long and difficult, but Smith is no stranger to challenges. After all, not many five year-olds climb behind the wheel of a quarter midget and succeed; he was one of the few.
Smith won his first of two National Quarter Midget Championships in 1998 at just under ten. In 1999, he duplicated his amazing performance from the previous year, winning another championship.
By nine, it was time for Smith to move into Bandoleros. Showing the virtues of a versatile racecar driver, Smith won races on both road courses and ovals, and again, scored a National Championship in 2001.
Drivers like Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne and Carl Edwards grew up racing on dirt and Smith is no different. Winning championships in Legends cars on both dirt and asphalt continued to develop his skills on all styles of racetracks.
After winning championships at every level throughout his career, Smith moved to regional level racing in the ASA Late Model Series in 2005. Smith competed in the North and Challenge divisions of ASA and had captured the 2006 ASA Late Model North Championship by age 16.
His success in ASA catapulted him into the ARCA Re/Max Series where he made his debut at Toledo in 2007.
Smith would team up with Terry Jones to drive the Lloyd's BBQ Hormel Foods #30. 2008 was a year in which Smith took his career to another level. In just his second career start, Smith scored a fifth place finish at the Iowa Speedway, where he led his first career laps in the ARCA Series. His third start saw him score a career best third place at the Kansas Speedway and followed it up with his third top five of the season at Chicagoland Speedway in just his eighth start.
In 2009, Smith began his season behind the wheel of the #25 for Venturini Motorsports at the Kentucky Speedway. He tied his career best ARCA finish and made several other starts with the Venturini's.
Smith is poised to make his foray into the top divisions of NASCAR in the near future and carve out a name for himself in the top level of stock car racing.
